The external waterstop, also known as the back-attached waterstop or external waterstop, is

a waterstop structure set on the outside (water-facing side) of the wall panels of concrete deformation

joints and settlement joints in underground structures. It has the ability to adapt to the expansion and

contraction deformation of concrete through the material elasticity and structural form of the waterstop.

According to the material selection, it can be classified into externally attached waterstop, externally

attached plastic waterstop, externally attached waterstop joint and embedded water-swelling waterstop, etc.

From the structural form, it can be divided into two types: EB type waterstop and EP type waterstop. It is

worth noting that since the external waterstop is set on the water-facing side of the concrete, it is often

required to be welded and sealed with the waterproof board during the construction process. Therefore, in

this case, an external waterstop of the same material as the waterproof board should be selected (for example,

EVA waterproof board should choose EVA external waterstop). Additionally, after the external waterstop is

used, When backfilling on the outside of the concrete wall panel, attention should be paid to the protection

of the externally attached waterstop.
